A concert celebrating the milestones of student musicians will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday in Callaway Auditorium.
“The path to becoming a musician is unique—and personal,” said Dr. Toni Anderson, Professor of Music. “Our upcoming music event, ‘The Journey,’ highlights those events in the lives of our students that shaped their musical journeys. Each musical selection celebrates students’ collective experiences on the road of life.”
“The Journey” will feature the LC Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Ken Passmore, Assistant Professor of Music, and the LC Singers, conducted by Dr. Anderson.
“This is the first time we have combined these two ensembles in a concert,” Dr. Anderson said. “It is an unusual combination we think audiences will enjoy.”
The program’s content is diverse.
“There will be rhythmic percussion numbers that will keep your toes tapping and vocal arrangements that will warm your heart,” she said. “All the musical selections celebrate our collective journey on the road of life.”
The percussionists will accompany the vocalists for certain pieces, but there will be times when the singers join the percussionists.
“The performers will move from one instrument to another, so there will be a lot of movement on stage,” she said. “Many of our students play multiple instruments as well as sing, and this concert allows them to showcase the diversity of their talent.”
The path to becoming a musician often starts long before a student arrives on campus, and everyone’s path is unique.
“We wanted to highlight some of those milestone moments in the lives of our students, moments that influenced their musical journeys and inspired them to continue to develop their musicianship,” Dr. Anderson said.
The students will be joined with several professionals who have worked with the Music program in the past, including Tessa Scanlon on cello, Sam Lee on violin and Dr. Mitch Turner, Program Coordinator of Music, on guitar. Also appearing on violin are sophomore Kailey Ford and Alan Valdez ’21.
Dr. Anderson said the students are excited to be able to share their talents with the community.
“It’s been a while since they have been on the Callaway Auditorium stage before a live audience,” she said. “This concert will be truly memorable for them, as well as for Ken and me. We’re all back doing what we love.”
In today’s world, music is even more important, she believes.
“Music inspires, takes us out of the ordinary, lifts us up out of everyday experiences,” she said. “Ken and I hope this concert will do exactly that—take the listener on a journey that will lift and inspire.”
The one-night only performance of "The Journey" is Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in Callaway Auditorium. Masks are required.

Oleg Dmitriev, professor of communications, media and design at HSE University, and Olga Dmitrieva of Sputnik recently joined students and Political Science Professors John Tures and Jeff Lukken for a discussion of Russia, the media and US-Russian relations.
An opening reception for “First Look” will be 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Lamar Dodd Art Center. The exhibition features the works of nine new Art and Design majors: Alyvia Battles, Kara Brake, Yuuki Brooks, Vianca Colon-Gonzalez, Grace DeVauld, Malik Hurston, Lindsey Pettis, Abigail Reeves and Breanna Wright. The Sound of Success tradition continues. Graduating seniors who have received either notice of admission to graduate school, or a post-graduation job offer, may ring the Chapel bell to celebrate their accomplishment. Students must complete an online form and they will be sent instructions on how to ring the bell. A list of celebrants will be included in the weekly Panther Tea (formerly Panther Bites) newsletter.
Congratulations to the voice students who were winners at the 2021 Georgia NATS student auditions. They were Emily Childs, first place, freshmen women (classical); Erika Hill, second place, sophomore women (musical theatre); Jared McGregor, third place, junior men (musical theatre); Lauren Hicks, third place, senior women (musical theatre), and Colby Bell, second place, senior men (musical theatre). Ten singers from the studios of Dr. Toni Anderson and Dr. Andrea Mueller Jarmon participated in the competition, held virtually Nov. 1-5. Ken Passmore was the collaborative artist. Students from colleges and private studios across Georgia competed in the event.

Men’s Basketball
LC (1-0) opened its 2021-22 season with a 108-101 win over visiting Pensacola Christian on Monday night. Senior Kyle Brown led six Panthers in double figures with 18 points. He added seven rebounds and a career-high nine assists.
Women’s Basketball
The Panthers (2-1) defeated Emory 66-57 on Wednesday night. Senior Jalaya Lewis led LC with a game high 17 points. Junior Gracie Brunel and freshman Emma Turner had 10 points each.
Football
The Panthers (2-7, 2-5 USA South) lost 31-22 at Averett in a USA South game last Saturday. Junior De’queze Fryer had seven catches for 94 yards and a touchdown.
